She is currently the newsletter writer at Documented, a newsroom that covers immigration in New York City. She has previously written for Quartz and Digital Frontier on topics spanning technology, labor rights, international affairs, business, and pop culture.

Julia earned her BA in international relations and English literature from Tufts University, and a dual-degree MSc in public policy from Peking University and the London School of Economics and Political Science.

She has lived in Beijing and London. She currently lives in Brooklyn where she writes Snake Oil, a newsletter that deep dives into internet grifts, scams, and disinformation. ​
